US Treasury Imposes Sanctions on South Sudan Officials for Sexual Violence in Conflict.

The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on two South Sudanese officials responsible for conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) in the country. The two individuals, a Major General in the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces and the Governor of Western Equatoria, have abused their positions of political and military authority to carry out acts of sexual violence against citizens of South Sudan. This marks the first time that a dedicated focus on conflict-related sexual violence has led to the imposition of US sanctions.
