"Meloni's Conference: Tackling Migration to Europe by Supporting Africa"

Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni has opened an international conference on migration in Rome, calling for new, more equal relationships between Europe and migrants' countries of origin and transit. The conference aims to address issues impacting Mediterranean nations, particularly migration and energy. Human rights groups are concerned that the meeting may result in anti-migrant policies that put the burden on Africa to keep Africans out of Europe. Meloni proposed four main areas of cooperation: fighting criminal organizations trafficking migrants, better managing migration flows, supporting refugees, and assisting countries of origin. Pope Francis also called on leaders in Europe and Africa to find a solution for the thousands of migrants trapped at borders in North Africa.
