The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into its military operations, claiming it presents "a leap forward" in targeting and locating enemies. The IDF used AI to locate at least two Hamas commanders during a 10-day operation in 2021. However, researchers have raised concerns about the potential escalation AI would create on the battlefield, including the lack of clarity surrounding how AI reaches its conclusions and the possibility of abuse by private military company partners. The IDF acknowledges these concerns but stresses the human element remains vital to the fair use and integration of AI technology.
