Russia Trains Combat Dolphins to Protect Black Sea Fleet in Crimea

The Russian Navy has reportedly increased security at its Black Sea Fleet base in Crimea by using trained dolphins to counter enemy divers. The number of floating mammal pens in the harbor of Sevastopol has nearly doubled from April to June, according to satellite imagery cited by the British defense ministry. Bottlenose dolphins are believed to be housed in the pens, which were previously used by the Soviet Union to train marine mammals for military purposes. The Russian Navy has denied reports of training dolphins to attack enemy divers with weapons attached to their heads.
