Deadly floods ravage eastern DR Congo, leaving hundreds dead and missing.

Heavy rains caused rivers to burst their banks in South Kivu province, resulting in at least 287 deaths, 205 serious injuries, and 167 missing people. President Felix Tshisekedi has declared a day of national mourning and a team of ministers will coordinate humanitarian aid and disaster management. The disaster came two days after floods killed at least 131 people in neighbouring Rwanda. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres offered condolences and highlighted the impact of climate change on extreme weather events. DR Congo is one of the poorest countries in the world, riddled by conflict in its east.
