Jordan and Egypt denounce Israeli strikes in Gaza, UN envoy calls civilian deaths "unacceptable"

Jordan and Egypt have condemned Israel's deadly strikes in Gaza, which killed 13 people, including women and children. The strikes were launched in the early hours of Tuesday morning with the targeted assassination of three senior Islamic Jihad officials. The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, condemned the "unacceptable" killing of civilians in the Gaza airstrikes. The bombings came days after Gazan terrorists led by Islamic Jihad fired 104 rockets at Israel in response to the death of an alleged senior member of the group who had been on hunger strike in Israeli prison.
