Massive Protests in Israel Against Judicial Overhaul

Tens of thousands of Israelis protested across the country against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plans to tighten controls on the Supreme Court, which would give the government control over naming judges and let parliament override many rulings. The government says the overhaul is needed to restore balance between the judiciary and elected politicians, while critics say it will remove vital checks and balances underpinning a democratic state.
