Rising Antisemitism and Divisions in Germany Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict

A recent survey conducted in Germany reveals that 52% of respondents believe there has been a rise in antisemitism in the country since the Hamas terror attacks on October 7. German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck has also spoken out about the issue, warning of growing antisemitism among Islamists, right-wing extremists, and "in parts of the political left." The survey also found that 35% of respondents believe Israel's military response to the attacks was proportionate, while 41% think it is going too far. Dissatisfaction with the government remains high, with only a quarter of eligible voters approving of the current administration's performance. The center-right bloc of CDU/CSU leads in the polls, followed by the far-right AfD, while the socialist Left Party has gained ground.
