Russia's Talk of War: Even Putin is Joining In

President Vladimir Putin and other top officials in Russia have started using the word "war" to describe the conflict in Ukraine, which began in 2014 after a pro-Russian president was toppled in Ukraine's Maidan Revolution and Russia annexed Crimea. The Kremlin had previously refused to call it a war, instead using euphemisms such as "a special military operation". The creeping acceptance of war even in public gives a sense of how the Kremlin's perceptions have changed - and may give a taste of the future after more than 15 months of the most deadly war in Europe since World War Two.
