The Global Response to Putin's Nuclear Threats in Belarus

Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of plans to station nuclear weapons in Belarus has drawn condemnation from Ukraine, the United States, and NATO. Putin claims the move is in response to the US's deployment of nuclear weapons in different European countries. NATO called Putin's comments "dangerous & irresponsible," while Ukraine requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to counter Russia's "nuclear blackmail." Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said Russia's deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in her country would violate its constitution and "grossly contradicts the will of the Belarusian people."
