U.S. Delays Sanctions on Wagner Amid Putin Concerns

The U.S. is delaying new sanctions on Russian paramilitary group Wagner, fearing it could inadvertently help President Vladimir Putin after its founder and leader launched an uprising against the Kremlin. The State Department had planned to announce new designations on Wagner’s gold business in Africa on Tuesday, including on a mining operation set up by the group in the Central African Republic.
