France-sized Bavi Downgrades to Tropical Storm After Lashing Eastern China

Tropical Storm Bavi, downgraded from a typhoon after making landfall in Zhejiang, China, prompted evacuations of nearly two million people and brought heavy rain and winds around 101 km/h. The storm felled trees, flooded streets, and disrupted transport across Zhejiang and Shanghai, with Hangzhou rail services suspended and hundreds of flights cancelled. By Sunday it had moved into Anhui and is forecast to head toward the Yellow Sea, bringing more rain to eastern and northern China in coming days.
