At least 34 people over 60 years old have died in the past two days due to severe heat in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, prompting doctors to advise elderly residents to stay indoors during the daytime. The scorching summer has also caused power outages across the state, leaving people without running water, fans, or air conditioners. The main summer months in India are generally hot before monsoon rains bring cooler temperatures, but temperatures have become more intense in the past decade.
