Spain's October Heatwave: Record-Breaking Temperatures Soar

Spain experienced its warmest start to October since records began, with nearly 40% of weather stations reporting maximum temperatures above 32 degrees Celsius. This follows a summer with four heatwaves, part of a global trend of rising temperatures attributed to human activity. The Iberian Peninsula saw temperatures between seven and 14 degrees above normal for this time of year, with almost 100 individual records broken on October 1. Climate change is causing more frequent and intense warm spells, and future summers are expected to be hotter and longer, extending into the traditionally mild and rainy autumn.
