Typhoon Lan Threatens Western and Central Japan on Aug. 15

Typhoon Lan is expected to make landfall in western and central Japan on August 15, bringing heavy rain, mudslides, and flooding during the country's Bon summer holidays. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued warnings for downpours in eastern and western Japan from Monday to Tuesday. Train services may be delayed or suspended, and rainfall of up to 300-500 millimeters is expected in the Tokai region and up to 300 mm in the Kanto-Koshin and Kinki regions. The rush of holidaymakers returning home is likely to cause heavy congestion, as many people traveled for the summer break for the first time since COVID-19 restrictions were eased.
