India overtakes China as world's most populous nation

China has lost its position as the world's most populous country to India, but Chinese officials and citizens are not concerned as they prioritize consumer and investor confidence over population size. China's economy is far more developed than India's, but both countries face challenges such as an aging population and unemployment. India's population is younger but more of them are unemployed or in extreme poverty. The UN survey found that many Indians listed economic issues as their top concern when thinking about population change.
