"Lost 19th-century hospital and cemetery discovered underwater off Florida coast"
Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a 19th-century hospital and cemetery underwater off the coast of the Florida Keys. The hospital was used to treat yellow fever patients at nearby Fort Jefferson between 1890 and 1900, and the cemetery is believed to be the Fort Jefferson Post Cemetery, where dozens of US soldiers may have been buried. The find was part of a survey by park staff, members of the Submerged Resources Center, the Southeast Archaeological Center, and a graduate student from the University of Miami.
