McNulty's Solo Win Marks USA Cycling's Decade-Long Rise to World Dominance
Brandon McNulty won the 2026 UCI Road World Championships men's road race in Montreal, ending a 33-year drought for the United States. His solo victory, achieved with 32 km remaining, was the culmination of a decade-long development strategy by USA Cycling. The win featured a coordinated team effort by riders like Matteo Jorgenson and Quinn Simmons, who neutralized key rivals. McNulty, a 28-year-old from Phoenix, Arizona, will debut his rainbow jersey at the Giro dell'Emilia on October 3. This victory is seen as the peak of a 'golden generation' of American cyclists, following earlier successes by Sepp Kuss and Quinn Simmons.
