Ukrainian forces, supported by US-supplied Stryker armored vehicles and the elite 82nd Air Assault Brigade, have recaptured territory near Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, according to the Institute for the Study of War. The Strykers, known for their effectiveness in urban warfare, have played a significant role in the ongoing conflict.
The 82nd Air Assault Brigade, one of Ukraine's most powerful military units, has yet to join the ongoing counteroffensive against Russian troops. Equipped with Challenger 2 tanks, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and Stryker wheeled IFVs, the brigade is ready to engage at the command of Ukrainian leaders. The Challenger 2 tanks, with their thick composite armor, are the best-protected tanks Ukraine has for a direct assault on Russian fortifications. The Marders provide additional firepower and protection, while the Strykers offer speed and maneuverability. However, the counteroffensive has been slow, and previous engagements have resulted in significant vehicle losses. The United States is sending replacement vehicles to support the brigade, including additional Strykers.
