Padres End Season with Loss to Brewers in NLDS Game 4

The San Diego Padres' 2026 postseason ended in defeat on Wednesday, October 8, 2026, as they lost Game 4 of the National League Division Series to the Milwaukee Brewers at Petco Park. The loss eliminated the Padres from the playoffs. Manager Craig Stammen activated reliever Mason Miller from the paternity list, replacing Wandy Peralta, while the status of Adrián Morejón remained uncertain. The Padres stacked their lineup with right-handed hitters to counter Brewers left-hander Robert Gasser, but the Brewers secured the win, concluding the Padres' season.

Padres ride Miller, Morejón to tense 7-6 win over Giants

Padres overcome early trouble to beat the Giants 7-6, getting seven solid innings from Michael King, timely offense, and a shutdown back-end by Adrian Morejón and Mason Miller to snap a win streak at six and tighten their grip on the NL playoff spot.

Padres Stand Pat on Elite Relievers as Deadline Looms

San Diego isn’t expected to move Adrián Morejón or Mason Miller at the trade deadline; Miller remains a top-controllable reliever, while Morejón’s value is tempered by a likely qualifying offer and luxury-tax concerns. The Padres may shop other relievers like Wandy Peralta or Yuki Matsui and still pursue upgrades at the outfield or rotation, but a deal involving the two stars seems unlikely.

Yankees, Rays, Pirates Circle Padres Reliever Adrian Morejon

Padres reliever Adrian Morejon, posting a 2.62 ERA over three seasons with a 33.8% whiff rate and 61.5% groundball rate this year, is drawing strong deadline interest as a rental chip. The Yankees, aiming to bolster their bullpen after trading Camilo Doval, are noted suitors; the Rays may be priced out by a high prospect cost, while the Pirates—already active at the deadline—could add Morejon to fortify the bullpen. Morejon is owed about $1.2 million for the rest of the season, making him an affordable upgrade for contenders. Padres sit three games above .500 and within Wild Card reach, but listening on assets could shape a high-reward deal.

Cubs Target Three Relievers as Deadline Push Gains Steam

With the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline near, the Cubs are aggressively pursuing bullpen upgrades, eyeing San Diego’s Adrian Morejon and Mets righties Luke Weaver and Jeff Hoffman for high-leverage help rather than a splash closer. Morejon is a cheap rental with elite groundballs and 99 mph velocity; Weaver carries one year of control at $11M after a strong season; Hoffman offers closer experience and next-year cost, making him a potential fit if Palencia isn’t ready. The Padres’ willingness to sell and Mets' sell-off status shape the market, and a Weaver-led package could satisfy both bullpen and rotation needs. The bottom line: Chicago wants three impact relievers to boost postseason odds.
