
House backs tighter aviation safety rules after deadly midair crash
The House approved the ALERT Act 396-10 to require ADS-B In and other collision-avoidance tech for most aircraft, including military planes, by 2031, and to extend safety measures to helicopter routes and air-traffic-control training, in response to the January 2025 midair collision near Reagan National Airport. The bill, the House version contrasted with the Senate’s ROTOR Act, addresses some NTSB recommendations but victims’ families say it does not fully address all issues and budget/defense concerns raised by the Pentagon and lawmakers.
