Texas Professor Falsely Accuses Students of AI Plagiarism and Threatens to Fail Class
A Texas A&M University instructor reportedly misused AI program ChatGPT to accuse students of cheating on assignments, leading to most of the class receiving a zero. The instructor, who teaches agricultural classes, allegedly copied and pasted students' responses into ChatGPT to determine if the program generated the content. However, the program is not fully reliable at detecting when a text is written by AI. Texas A&M is investigating the issue, and no students have failed the class or been barred from graduating as a result. The diplomas will remain on hold until individual investigations are completed.
