"NASA's Night-Shining Cloud Mission Yields High Science Results"
NASA's Aeronomy of Ice in the Mesosphere (AIM) mission, dedicated to studying night-shining clouds and atmospheric gravity waves, has concluded after 16 years due to a battery failure. Despite facing technical challenges, the mission yielded high science results, leading to nearly 400 peer-reviewed publications and significant discoveries about the formation and impact of these clouds. While the spacecraft will burn up upon re-entry in 2026, scientists will continue to analyze the extensive data collected by AIM for years to come.
