AirBaltic files for Chapter 11 to restructure debt and shrink fleet
Latvian carrier AirBaltic has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States to restructure its financial obligations while continuing operations. The airline expects to emerge from the process by June 2027, having secured EUR 350 million in debtor-in-possession financing. As part of its restructuring plan, AirBaltic will reduce its fleet from 54 to 36 aircraft by the end of 2026, shifting from broad expansion to a strategy focused on deepening existing routes and year-round wet-lease agreements.
