IRGC strikes Al-Tanf, signaling wider reach against US bases in the region

The IRGC launched a surprise strike on the US Special Operations Command center at Al-Tanf in Syria as part of the 11th wave of Operation Nasr 2, destroying radar systems and helicopters and killing a number of American forces. The attack, framed as retaliation for US actions, marks a deep incursion into Syrian territory and underlines Tehran’s aim to threaten American assets beyond the Persian Gulf. It comes within a broader Nasr 2 campaign targeting US bases across the region, signaling a strategic escalation intended to deter US aggression and warn regional actors such as Hezbollah, Jordan, and Kuwait that American deployments face expanded risk. Analysts view the operation as a potential turning point that could reshape regional security dynamics and the calculus of US allies in West Asia.

US escalates airstrikes on ISIS targets in Syria after deadly ambush

CENTCOM said U.S. aircraft conducted 10 strikes against more than 30 ISIS targets in Syria from Feb. 3 through Thursday, hitting weapons storage facilities and other infrastructure; at least 50 ISIS members have been killed or captured and more than 100 targets have been struck since the campaign began after the Dec. 13 ambush that killed two U.S. soldiers and a civilian interpreter. Separately, Syria’s government said it captured a base east of the country that had been run by U.S. troops at Al-Tanf, while the U.S. completed transferring thousands of ISIS detainees from Syria to Iraq at Baghdad’s request.
