EU Implements Sanctions Against Kosovo for Unrest and Tensions with Serbia

The EU has announced "reversible and temporary measures" against Kosovo, citing its failure to restore calm in the Serb-majority north. The measures include the suspension of high-level visits, contacts, and events, as well as financial cooperation with Kosovo. Kosovo PM Kurti faces criticism over foreign policy and unrest.

Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti's strategy to integrate the northern Serbs into the rest of Kosovo has failed, and the country now has less control over the region than ever before. The US has publicly rebuked Kosovo, barring it from further participation in NATO defence exercise "Defender 23". The author suggests that Kosovo would have been wiser to leave the northern Serb issue on the back burner, as the region economically and strategically means little to Kosovo. The Kurti government wastes its time obsessing over a small minority of people who clearly don't wish to be part of the national project.
