Record-low cut at Shinnecock pushes U.S. Open field to weekend
The 126th U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills saw the cut fall to +4—the lowest at the venue in five Opens—sending 71 players to the weekend after Dylan Wu birdied the 18th to finish at 4 over. Advancers include Bob MacIntyre, Bud Cauley, Chris Gotterup and Caleb Surratt, plus Joaquin Niemann who made the cut despite a rare ‘11’ on a hole thanks to a 65 round. Many big names missed the cut, including Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Rickie Fowler and Jon Rahm; Brooks Koepka was 10 over, with defending champ J.J. Spaun and Adam Scott at 8 over. Five amateurs remained: Eric Lee, Marek Fleming, Jackson Koivun, Miles Russell and Ryder Cowan.
