Leaker Confirms PS6 and Xbox Helix Tape-Outs, Highlighting 40% Performance Gap and Pricing Risks
AMD leaker Kepler_L2 confirms the custom chips for the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Project Helix have been taped out, pointing to a late 2027 launch. The Xbox Helix is reported to offer 56 TFLOPS compared to the PS6's 40 TFLOPS, a 40% raw performance advantage. However, analysts warn that this gap may not translate to double frame rates due to architectural differences. The primary concern is pricing: rising memory costs have pushed the PS6 bill of materials to approximately $960, while the Helix is expected to cost over $1,000, potentially limiting adoption.
