TechPowerUp has published a new review investigating whether the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D's massive 96MB L3 cache reduces the impact of memory speed and latency on gaming performance. The article tests eight different memory configurations to determine if high-end RAM is still necessary for this processor.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU remains overpriced, with prices ranging from $759 to $1,099, despite expectations of being under $500. As an alternative, CyberPowerPC offers a gaming PC for $1,929 featuring the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super, 32GB DDR5 RAM, and a 2TB SSD, along with a gaming keyboard, mouse, and a one-year warranty. While not a budget-friendly option, it provides a comprehensive gaming setup.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is currently the fastest gaming CPU, but its high demand has led to inflated prices. Fortunately, affordable X870 motherboards from MSI, GIGABYTE, and ASUS offer seamless installation without needing a BIOS update. The GIGABYTE X870 Eagle WIFI7 is the most cost-effective at $229.99, supporting the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard. The MSI and ASUS models are slightly more expensive but offer similar features. For those on a tighter budget, the previous-generation Ryzen 7 7800X3D and its compatible motherboards remain a viable option.
MSI has announced full support for the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU on its X870, X870E, and older 600-series AM5 motherboards through the AGESA 1.2.0.2a BIOS update. This update ensures compatibility with the new Zen 5 architecture-based processor, which is designed for peak gaming performance and high computing power. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads, will launch on November 7th at $479. The update also extends support to MSI's X670/E and B650/E motherboards, allowing users to benefit from PCIe Gen 5 and DDR5 memory support.
