Florida hoarding case rescues 100+ pets from sweltering Stuart home
Authorities rescued more than 100 animals—primarily cats and small dogs—from a Stuart home after a suspected hoarding case, describing the conditions as deplorable with extreme heat and feces-filled cages. The investigation says Gail Giustino, 77, collected pets found on her mail route; some pets were reunited with owners as 108 animals had been taken in by late July. Investigators faced hazardous odors; Giustino was charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty and confinement without sufficient exercise and released on a $50,000 bond. Shelters continue caring for the animals and expect more recoveries and eventual adoptions.
