Hidden 1930s Patek Philippe Watch Fetches $80,000 at UK Auction
A 1930s Patek Philippe wristwatch, discovered in a family jewelry box in Cornwall, sold for £59,000 ($80,000) at a UK auction, far exceeding its £5,000 estimate. The rare stainless steel timepiece, which had remained with the family for decades, attracted intense international bidding from collectors in Japan, China, and the US. The final buyer, based in Hong Kong, secured the watch, which is noted for its mechanical perfection and rarity, as Patek Philippe produced few stainless steel models during that era.
