Arizona House Candidate Discloses August Rape During Campaign Work
Democratic candidate Bernadette Greene-Placentia has publicly disclosed that she was raped by two men on August 14 while repairing campaign signs in Sun City, Arizona. She reported the incident to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on August 31, more than two weeks later. The attack occurred around 2 a.m. when she was struck on the head, lost consciousness, and was subsequently assaulted. Greene-Placentia is running against Republican incumbent Abe Hamadeh for the 8th Congressional District. While she suspects the attack may have been politically motivated due to a slur she heard, she acknowledges it could have been a crime of opportunity. The sheriff’s office is investigating, but suspects remain unidentified.
