Thai Activist Arnon Nampa Sentenced to 34 Years for 2020 Monarchy Criticism
Thai human rights lawyer Arnon Nampa has been sentenced to an additional two years and eight months in prison for violating lèse-majesté laws, bringing his cumulative sentence to over 34 years. The conviction stems from a speech he gave in 2020 during a protest demanding transparency regarding royal assets. Nampa, who has been detained since 2023, faces multiple ongoing charges, while international bodies condemn the sentencing as arbitrary detention.
