Israel has trained a unit of attack dogs to be deployed in Hamas' extensive tunnel network, with footage showing a dog running through a mock-up underground passage and mauling a fake fighter. The specially-trained military canines, part of the Oketz unit, are capable of sniffing out explosives, finding entrances, and attacking terrorists. The tunnels, hidden up to 100ft below the surface, are used by Hamas to transport people and goods, store ammunition, and house command and control centers. Israel claims to have encircled Gaza City and split the besieged enclave in two, with plans to pour troops into the city in the next 48 hours.
