Los Angeles officials euthanize coyote after toddler injured in Atwater Village
A coyote was euthanized in Los Angeles’s Atwater Village on Friday, October 17, 2026, after a 16-month-old child was injured during an encounter. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) confirmed the animal was put down after being found near the 3300 block of Glenhurst Avenue. DNA samples from the child and the coyote are being analyzed to confirm if the euthanized animal was the one involved in the incident. The child was treated at a local hospital and released. This event follows earlier concerns in August about a coyote nicknamed 'Wiley' chasing residents and pets in the same neighborhood.
