AI-designed metalloproteases achieve billion-fold catalytic speed for disease targets
Researchers at the University of Washington used AI to design functional metalloproteases from scratch, achieving catalytic rates up to 10 billion times faster than uncatalyzed reactions. These enzymes can selectively cleave disease-associated proteins like TDP-43 and amyloid-beta, offering potential for targeted therapies and bioremediation.
