Massive khat seizure at BWI tied to two New York travelers
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport seized about 847 pounds of khat in 12 soft-sided suitcases from two New York residents arriving on a London flight. The khat, worth roughly $100,000, tested positive after a secondary baggage inspection and the travelers were released for further investigation. Khat is a stimulant with DEA-listed components; this seizure followed another khat discovery at the same airport days earlier (about 412 pounds).
