German Millionaires Rally to Rescue Beached Humpback Timmy
Wealthy Germans have pooled funds for a last-ditch rescue of Timmy, a 12-tonne humpback stranded off Timmendorfer Strand in the Baltic. The private operation, dubbed 'Operation Cushion,' aims to lift the weakened whale with inflatable pads and drag it onto a tarp tied to a tugboat, then move it to deeper waters toward the North Sea/Atlantic. Donors include Walter Gunz, and while the plan has drawn Greenpeace’s criticism for risk, officials say it offers a chance to save Timmy if everything goes to plan.
