Federal Judge Denies Stay, Trump’s Name Must Come Off Kennedy Center
A federal judge rejected the Trump administration’s bid to stay a May 29 order mandating the removal of President Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center facade, meaning the center cannot remain renamed the Trump Kennedy Center while appeals are pursued. Judge Christopher Cooper said the defendants failed to show they’re likely to win on the merits and that a stay wouldn’t serve the public interest. The D.C. Circuit has not yet ruled on a stay, and Rep. Joyce Beatty’s lawsuit argues Congress alone can change the center’s name, which is preserved by the Kennedy Center’s organic statute.
