Casey Mize Lands on IL as Tigers Call Brieske Back to Bolster Bullpen
Detroit placed Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list with right adductor inflammation (retroactive to May 28) and recalled Beau Brieske from the 60-day IL to fill the roster, while Brant Hurter was shifted to the 60-day IL. Mize, who owns a 2.27 ERA and a high strikeout rate this season, had just returned from an earlier adductor strain before leaving Wednesday’s start with groin pain. The Tigers, 22-35, will need a replacement starter for Monday’s series opener in Tampa Bay, with Ty Madden possibly returning from a forearm contusion, and Brieske’s return provides added bullpen depth for a weekend lineup.
