
Paris’s new mayor pledges frugality, greens, and a stand against the far right
Paris elected Emmanuel Grégoire, a left-wing successor to continue expanding bike lanes, curb car use, and push environmental policies while promising frugal governance and a sweeping reform of school-monitor oversight amid abuse scandals. He aims to shield the city from “Trumpian” politics, confront homelessness and housing shortages, tackle Airbnb, and position Paris as a bulwark against the far right ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
