Indonesia's Kawah Ijen Volcano Erupts Bright Blue "Lava"

The Kawah Ijen volcanic complex in Indonesia is the only place on Earth to consistently exhibit electric blue streams of "lava" caused by an abundance of sulfur pockets in the rock. The blue flame phenomenon is caused by sulfur igniting as it comes into contact with oxygen. The complex is also home to the largest acid lake in the world and a sulfur mining operation done by hand. The intense levels of sulfur make the air surrounding the complex toxic to anyone who breathes it, and without proper protective equipment, many of the sulfur miners suffer serious health conditions.
