Mother seeks accountability after teen fatally shot by St. Louis officer
A St. Louis mother is demanding accountability after her 17-year-old son, Emeshyon Wilkins, was fatally shot in the back by a police officer during a June 2024 stop; body-camera video released this week contradicts authorities' initial claim that the teen pointed a gun, showing him running away. A disassembled gun found in his pocket raised questions, and the officer declined to answer most questions during a deposition as investigators reassess the case. The department acknowledged earlier information was inconsistent and updated its information-sharing protocols, while the Circuit Attorney’s Office reviews possible charges; the family had to sue to obtain the video.
