American Airlines is retrofitting its Boeing 777-300ERs to add 144 premium seats (70 Flagship Suite, 44 Premium Economy, 30 Main Cabin Extra), increasing premium share to about 44% of 330 seats and eliminating Flagship First. The first upgraded plane will fly NYC–Buenos Aires, with all 20 retrofits expected by 2027 as part of a broader shift toward higher-spending travelers and stronger profitability.

The first redesigned 777-300ER entered service on Sept. 2, 2026 (N718AN) with JFK–Buenos Aires, and routes like DFW–London follow; first-class on these jets will no longer be sold starting Nov. 19, 2026, with the full fleet reconfiguration expected by end-2027 (potentially early-2028) on routes including EZE, LHR, GRU, SYD, and HND.
United Airlines' flight from Guam to Honolulu, which was supposed to allow passengers to celebrate New Year's Eve twice by taking off in 2024 and landing in 2023 due to the International Date Line, was delayed by over six hours. The delay was caused by a maintenance issue on the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, resulting in the flight departing at 1:49 PM instead of 7:35 AM and landing at 12:34 AM on January 1, 2024, instead of 6:50 PM on December 31, 2023. This meant passengers missed the unique opportunity to ring in the New Year twice.
