Escaped Convict Sparks Manhunt and Raises Questions about Prison Security
The manhunt for Danelo Cavalcante, an escaped fugitive in the Philadelphia suburbs, intensified as authorities focused their search on the area near a botanical garden where he had been spotted. Cavalcante, who was convicted of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death, escaped from Chester County Prison on August 31. The number of officers involved in the search has grown to nearly 400, with multiple helicopters and road closures in the vicinity of Longwood Gardens. A guard who failed to notice Cavalcante's escape has been fired, and there have been two confirmed sightings of the fugitive within the search area. Cavalcante, who fled from Brazil after allegedly committing another murder, remains at large.
