Audible has released a new full-cast adaptation of Bram Stoker's 'Dracula,' featuring Jonathan Bailey as the Count and directed by horror veteran Mary Lambert. The production, described as Audible's largest release to date, includes a high-profile ensemble cast and an original score, launching in multiple languages globally.
"The Last Voyage of the Demeter" is a moody and atmospheric horror film that expands upon a single chapter in Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula." Director André Øvredal brings the story to life with a talented ensemble cast and a throwback to broody, Hammer-esque horrors. While the film suffers from a protracted runtime and a predictable outcome, it delivers on violent feeding sessions and offers an R-rated bite of vampiric brutality that will delight horror fans.
"The Last Voyage of the Demeter" is an old-fashioned monster movie set in 1897 aboard a wooden ship sailing from Bulgaria to London. Adapted from Bram Stoker's "Dracula," the film follows the journey of the Demeter as Dracula haunts the vessel. While the film captures the atmosphere of a period drama, it deviates from the old-fashioned style whenever Dracula appears, portraying him as a fast-moving goblin-like creature. The performances are corny, and the film lacks the poetic and eerie qualities one would expect from a Dracula adaptation. Overall, "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" falls short of being a truly scary horror film.
Renfield, the latest film adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, does not have a post-credit scene. However, the credits feature a montage of deleted scenes, including a musical number that was cut from the film. Despite mixed reviews, the film has merits, such as its unique premise and tight runtime. Renfield is a direct sequel to the 1931 Dracula film, and Nicolas Cage channels Bela Lugosi's performance as Count Dracula.
Renfield is a horror-comedy film that follows Dracula's grotesque familiar, Renfield, as he tries to break free from his toxic relationship with his master and fight crime alongside Awkwafina's lone honest cop. Nicolas Cage provides some fabulous B-movie fireworks as Dracula. The film is a cynical side-hustle that drains the extremities of the Bram Stoker estate and installs a lowly pretender as king.
"Renfield," a vampire movie starring Nicolas Cage, fails to deliver on its potential for comedy and clever references to Bram Stoker's "Dracula." Instead, the film relies on tired jokes and a worn-out premise of Renfield as Dracula's mistreated assistant. While Cage is amusing, the rest of the cast, including Awkwafina and Nicholas Hoult, are wasted in their roles. Overall, "Renfield" belongs in a coffin.
The upcoming film "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" follows the crew of a merchant ship as they discover that their cargo includes the vampire Dracula. The movie, based on an early passage from Bram Stoker's novel, features a cast including Corey Hawkins, Liam Cunningham, and David Dastmalchian. The film, which was stuck in development for 20 years, will finally be released in theaters on August 11.
Nicolas Cage stars in the horror comedy "Renfield," a spinoff of Bram Stoker's "Dracula," as the vampire himself, while Nicholas Hoult plays his codependent helper, Renfield. The film updates the Dracula legend for 2023 and features an affectionate tribute to Bela Lugosi. The screenplay was written by Detroit native Ryan Ridley, and Hoult delivers a standout performance as a millennial version of Hugh Grant. "Renfield" is part of the recent "Cageaissance," showcasing Cage's unique abilities as an actor.
