Chalk River Restoration in Hertfordshire Aims to Safeguard Brown Trout Spawning
A conservation project has completed the installation of large wood features on the River Hiz in Hertfordshire to protect a critical brown trout spawning site. The initiative, funded by the Environment Agency, aims to improve water flow and create sheltered areas for fish. This effort follows a previous seven-year restoration of the River Ash and highlights the urgent need to preserve England's rare chalk rivers, of which only 14% currently have good ecological status.
