Buffalo shooter Gendron files last-minute motion to dismiss indictment as jury selection begins
Jury selection begins Tuesday for the federal hate crimes trial of Payton Gendron, who faces the death penalty for the 2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting that killed 10 Black people. Gendron has already pleaded guilty to state murder charges and is serving life in prison. His defense team does not dispute his guilt but is seeking to avoid execution. Gendron filed a last-minute motion to dismiss the indictment, claiming the jury pool lacks sufficient Black representation. The trial is expected to last six to eight weeks.
