Former AEW wrestler Andy 'The Butcher' Williams died at 48 after collapsing in the ring during an Enjoy Wrestling event in Millvale, PA; CPR was administered and he later died at the hospital. Williams and partner The Blade were early AEW signees, and Williams also played rhythm guitar in the metal band Every Time I Die; no cause of death has been released.
The Boys ends its five-season run with a bloody, cathartic showdown in which Homelander is killed and Butcher dies soon after, leaving Hughie and Starlight to a mostly hopeful future. The finale threads a more optimistic ending than the show’s grim peak and acknowledges its shift away from the comics, while its satire of celebrity culture and authoritarian power remains, even as the bite of earlier seasons softens. The creator explains live-action adaptations necessitated different choices, and the franchise will continue with Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico, despite Gen V’s cancellation.
In the series finale of The Boys, Homelander is de-powered and killed by Butcher with a crowbar, but Butcher then goes rogue to unleash a supe-killing virus; Hughie stops him by shooting him, leading to a bittersweet ending where MM remarries and takes in Ryan, Kimiko finds peace with a new dog, and Hughie and Annie prepare to raise a child named Robin. Stan Edgar returns as Vought interim CEO, while the world contemplates Gen V Season 3 and potential spinoffs that would have continued the story, with Kripke teasing future paths for the Gen V kids and new threats. The ending remains hopeful yet costly, leaving room for more stories in the series’ universe.
Eric Kripke explains to Deadline that The Boys finale culminates seven years of storytelling with Hughie and Butcher’s secret, end‑game confrontation, while Homelander’s arc is derailed when Kimiko drains his powers in a live‑streamed Oval Office takedown. Kripke says removing his powers exposes the cowardice at the heart of his character, making his end both cathartic and inevitable; the episode also features The Deep’s comeuppance, a hopeful ending for Hughie and Annie, and seeds for Vought Rising, plus a high‑drama 4DX premiere experience that amplifies the finale’s impact.
In The Boys Season 5 finale, Homelander attempts to declare godhood on national television, but Ryan’s words reveal his lonely, depraved core; The Boys crash the Oval Office, Kimiko strips Homelander of his powers, and he is killed by Butcher. Butcher, driven by Terror’s death and his own death wish, is shot as he contemplates releasing a virus to wipe out all supers, dying soon after. The team mourns and goes their separate ways, with Hughie and Annie starting private-hero work, MM remarrying, and Kimiko reflecting on Frenchie. The episode teases future spin-offs like Soldier Boy and Gen V, but critics call the finale crowded and lukewarm, feeling it rushed key moments and leaning on comic-book endings rather than delivering a fully satisfying close.
