Schmitt Withdraws from C-SPAN After Gaffe; Sources Reveal He Ignored Warnings on Unvetted Texts
Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) pulled out of a scheduled C-SPAN appearance with Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) following his viral blunder during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing. During the hearing, Schmitt incorrectly accused former special counsel Jack Smith of perjury by claiming Smith attended an Atlanta Hawks game in February 2024 to conspire with a Georgia prosecutor. Smith clarified he actually attended a women's basketball game in College Park, Maryland, involving the Iowa Hawkeyes. While Schmitt defended his actions in a Politico interview, MS NOW reports he was warned by committee staff that the text messages he used as evidence were unvetted. The incident has intensified scrutiny on GOP strategy and Schmitt's potential 2028 vice-presidential ambitions.
